Village Church

The Church of All Saints stands on raised ground just beyond the Hall.
It dates from the fourteenth century but the front is from an earlier church.
Sir Richard Chomely, the Black Knight of the North, was buried in the chancel in 1583.
The wall tomb surmounted by a figure of a lady is thought to be the tomb of
Lady Beatrice Hastings. She lived in the reign of Edward II.
In the churchyard is the gravestone of Matthew Grimes.
It tells its own story. Matthew Grimes was guard over Napolean on St. Helena.
